RSPB Feed the Birds Day, October 30, is the time when wildlife starts to benefit from an extra helping hand. The RSPB website offers advice and information on feeding garden birds, and a free pack: www.rspb.org.uk

Feed the Birds Day is a great way to start a feeding station in preparation for the Big Schools Birdwatch in January as part of the national Big Garden Birdwatch. The Big Schools Birdwatch can be a simple one-off activity, or combined with a project to improve school grounds or support curriculum learning. Taking part is easy - it needs a minimum of forward planning to fit it into a class routine and can be any time in the fortnight January 24 to February 4.

The RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch pack contains everything to run a classroom or group project, with a full-colour A1 bird identification poster, your participation form, and fact-files on key birds in and around school grounds.. The emphasis is on taking part and having fun, no expertise is necessary. The pack includes For more details see www.rspb.org.ukbirdwatch
