It is a matter for teachers how actively they support the GTC or whether they vote in its elections.
However, besides its regulatory functions, the council has an important role in representing teachers’ views on professional matters direct to Government. To date it has offered authoritative advice on a number of professional issues - for example, on continuing professional development where it has given valuable input to our strategy.
We directly support a number of specific projects in this area with funding.
