Weakness exposed

It was cruel of you to allow Roger Hale to expose his weakness in verbal reasoning in the same edition as Demitri Coryton's clear and honest analysis of the implications of selection (TES, February 2).

Surely the headteacher of any school should understand the simple truth that selection, by whatever means, gives the school the power of choice and takes it away from the parents. Clearly Mr Hale's argument confuses the collective right of local parents to have a say in the structure of education in their area with the rights of individual parents to choose particular schools for their children.
