WELSH education should be independent from England, Edwin Williams, general secretary of UCAC, the Welsh teachers’ union, will tell a conference tomorrow (Saturday). He will call on the Welsh Assembly to take responsibility for teachers’ pay, conditions and recruitment from Westminster when he addresses a Welsh parents’ association. “We need the ability to decide our own working conditions and to get to grips with teachers’ workload,” he said.
