Education and Learning Wales, the post-16 education funding quango, has spent pound;82,000 on the commercials, part of a wider campaign in which colleges themselves pay for local advertising.
Grenville Jackson, ELWa's director of strategy and skills, said: "This is the kind of collaboration we are seeking to encourage among the providers of learning in order to get more people of all ages involved in building their knowledge and skills."
The "stars" of the adverts - to be shown on S4C - include A-level student Helen Rattray, of Yale college, Wrexham.
She said: "I've really enjoyed the whole experience, and was more than happy to be involved in a commercial showing off the college. I really enjoy acting and have been involved in college productions, so I wasn't too daunted in front of the camera."
Locally, colleges have been supporting the campaign with their own initiatives such as advertising on buses and in cinemas.
The TV advertisements are being broadcast for two weeks - in English and Welsh - and follow two students around their college, playing on the atmosphere of the institution and their own aspirations.
Mark Black, who also features, attends Coleg Menai in Bangor.
He said: "I had a really cool day and managed to feature a few friends in the commercial, too. College has easily been the best decision I've ever made."
In England, television advertising has been restricted to the Government's special projects, such as learndirect, rather than colleges.
