Students in Wales will not face increased university tuition fees, it was revealed this week. Even if Welsh students attend university in the rest of the UK they will pay the same fees in 2012 as they pay this year, Leighton Andrews told the Welsh Assembly. In a statement, Mr Andrews said: “In other words, the increase in fees for Welsh domiciled students, whether they study in England or Wales or Scotland or Northern Ireland, will be paid by the Welsh Assembly Government.” The minister proposes to pay for the subsidy by “top-slicing” the teaching grant for Welsh universities.
