JOHN Bangs is vociferous in his opposition to the suggestion of teaching assistants supervising classes. Perhaps he could now suggest those tasks he feels the “unqualified person” (TES, May 16) might be allowed to undertake in the primary classroom given that national strategies and tests have apparently rendered the washing of paint pots almost redundant.
By the way, some of those teaching assistants do have qualifications and fortunately some of us work in schools where creative and dedicated teachers still find time to let children use those paint pots!
