* “Much confidence can be restored outside the classroom. If the stumbling student has a role of responsibility, say, as class union rep, secretary of the film club or first-aider, his or her confidence can blossom, and this rubs off in classroom performance. In sixth form, so much emphasis is put on figures and performance we can forget the whole person and look at them only as a cumulation of their results. Taking a holistic approach and seeking out where they can shine can restore the student’s confidence.”
