I’m from Sweden and starting a PGCE in September. What is the salary for a teacher in the UK after obtaining qualified teacher status? What are the hours and holidays like?

As a new teacher you will start at the bottom of the main pay scale. This has different starting points for schools in and around London and elsewhere in England and Wales. At present, it is around pound;19,000. The working year is 195 days, and your time within that year is 1,265 hours.

Your induction year you will be eligible for a reduction in contact time spent in teaching. Most teachers will tell you that the hours they work exceed this quota. It remains to be seen whether the introduction of the final stage of the workload agreement this September will make any difference to the number of hours teachers work.
