Have you ever seen a goldfish in a water bottle? Teacher Sophie Mars has, after taking one from a pupil in her class last week.

Sophie shared her unusual find on Twitter and teachers jumped in to share their own stories of wayward items appearing in schools.

A pig

Pot bellied pig, kid in Y6 brought it in on a lead. Rang home, mum didn’t want it back. Lived in a hutch for a fortnight in Rec/Y1. Tears were shed the day Gerald left for a new home.

A hamster

We had to rescue a hamster that one of the children in our year brought into school in her pocket two weeks ago. It survived being shoved in and out of the locker. A trip to the playground at playtime and a little jaunt in the lunch hall where a dinner lady spotted her!!

5l of engine oil and a gum shield made by the lads dad out of copper wiring and insulation tape. Confiscated on grounds that wearing it would’ve done more harm than not doing

A diamond engagement ring - Yr 1 girl came in wearing it. Apparently her mum ‘said she could.’ Mum rushed to school to collect it

A severed finger

A Yr8 lopped the end of a finger off. As 1st Aider I took over. Packed the Yr8 off to reception to await ambulance & requested frozen peas from kitchen to preserve digit. It went missing. Lined them up & demanded it’s return. The thief wanted to take it home to show his mum
