Your job and career questions answered

I’m looking for a permanent post in south Wales, but there are so few jobs advertised here. I have every county website plus The TES online site. I cannot understand the dearth of opportunities. What is going on?

In Wales, five of the seven teacher-training establishments are in the south of the country and many of their graduates want to work in that region. This makes competition for posts particularly fierce. Many who trained in Wales are now working in England. Add in that the birth rate there has been falling for some years, and it is not surprising jobs are hard to get. The good news is that many teachers in Wales will be retiring in the next few years so if you can wait there should be more opportunities then.
