CAERLEON, GWENT: ROMAN LEGIONARY MUSEUM Roman days for seven to 11-year-olds until September 1, will include: dressing up, quizzes, prize competition and art workshops. NORTHERN ENGLAND BRADFORD: NATIONAL MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY, FILM AND TELEVISION Create space cities and spacemobiles, develop miniature model movies, and master special effects make-up at Wizz-Kid workshops every Monday (six to eight-year-olds), Tuesday (nine to 12 year-olds) and Friday (13 plus). Or become a director, camera operator, actor or animator and make a multimedia masterpiece at the Summer Club’s media magic festival every Wednesday (eight to 12-year-olds) and Thursday (13 plus), Pounds 2 per workshop. DERBY MUSEUMS At Pickford’s House Museum, July 30, 10am and 2pm, four to seven-year-olds will be making simple puppets, and at “Be a mad hatter” sessions on August 1, 10am and 2pm, eight to 12-year-olds will create their own hats. Derby Museum’s “A is for alphabet” session, July 31, 10am, aims to get 8 to 12-year-olds writing hieroglyphs and runes and inventing their own alphabet. BRIGHTON MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY In a “Fabulous Frames” workshop, August 1, children aged eight-upwards will create a frame from materials ranging from sweet papers to string, 10am-noon and 2-4pm, Pounds 2.50 in advance. For “Brighton in Stitches”, August 3, families are invited to sew their house and family or favourite place on to a giant wall hanging of Brighton, Pounds 1.50. LONDON VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM The Family Activity Cart is visiting the museum galleries, July 28-August 11, with free activities for three to 12-year-olds including designing a coat of arms, a Chinese tomb mask or a coloured stained glass window, making a kimono for a Japanese doll, and discovering the hidden stories in Indian miniatures. BARBICAN Life-size jungle animals made from cardboard and an inflatable rhinoceros are among the fun items to be seen at “Summer in the City”, the Barbican’s festival for two to eight-year-olds, July 29-August 2.
