Health education experts are hailing the firefighters' strike as doing more to change the eating habits of the young than any other initiative - and all because deep fat friers have been banned in school kitchens.

This has, we hear, failed to prevent some Glasgow pupils popping out for their tasty bite at their local chippie - a buttered roll with deep fried tattie scone.
