Replacing blackboards with hi-tech interactive whiteboards has had no impact on children’s achievement, according to a report by London university’s Institute of Education. Its evaluation of a government project to provide whiteboards in London schools found that they had no effect in the first year. It said in some cases pupils’ roles were being reduced to those of spectators and that teachers were focused too much on the technology and too little on what the pupils should be learning.
