The new Beacon Heritage Centre beside the harbour at Whitehaven in Cumbria opens in July. Costing Pounds 3 million, it will have three main themes: a satellite-linked Met Office weather gallery, “Whitehaven Looking Out” at its trading triangle with Africa and America and “Whitehaven Looking In” at its history as a Georgian port.
