ANNE Sofer, former director of education for Tower Hamlets, has been elected chair of the National Children’s Bureau, replacing Professor Philip Graham, who is now the charity’s vice-president. Ms Sofer has also been a consultant for the Department for Education and Employment’s ethnic-minority achievement team, a columnist for The TES and founding member of Kennedy Committee on widening participation in further education.

The Learning Lab at the University of Wolverhampton’s Telford Campus has appointed Professor Terry Goodison as senior reseach fellow. Professor Goodison will look at how technology-based learning will shape eucation and training. He is particularly interested in how technology can assist with dyslexia.

Christopher Martin has replaced Mike Wilson as chair of the Mental Health Foundation. Mr Martin has been a trustee and fundraiser there since 1998 and before that he was headmaster at Millfield school, Somerset.

Weald and Downland Open Air Museum has appointed Diane Walker as head of education. Ms Walker previously ran the education department at the Royal Armouries, Fort Nelson, in Portsmouth. She will also be responsible for education services provided by the West Sussex Countryside Studies Trust based at Goodwood.
