The next rincipal and chief executive of Doncaster College will be George Holmes (right). Dr Holmes, who will succeed Terry Ashurst on his retirement, is currently deputy vice-chancellor of the University of North London.
KIERAN Gordon has been appointed chief executive of the new Greater Merseyside Connexions service, a “one-stop” advice and support service on work and further education aimed especially at young people. Mr Gordon is currently chief executive of Careers Decisions in Liverpool.
Christine Lenehan has been appointed principal officer at the Council for Disabled Children (CDC), which is based at the National Children’s Bureau. She will be responsible for developing the council’s work in relation to health and social care. Before joining CDC, she spent 13 years at Barnardo’s.
The National Children’s Bureau has appointed Jacqui Newvell to head its pupil-inclusion unit. Ms Newvell, who has worked for the education and social work services in the London boroughs of Camden and Tower Hamlets, takes over the role from Barbara Fletcher. She will work with schools, voluntary agencies and local authorities to ensure that children at risk of exclusion receive the support they need to stay in school.
The Nuffield Foundtion has appointed Catrin Roberts as its assistant director (education). Dr Roberts joins the foundation from the Economic and Social Research Council, where she has worked on research, policy and evaluation since 1990.
Joanna Newman is the new director of adult education at the London Jewish Cultural Centre. She is a doctor of Jewish history and an expert in refugee and migration history, has lectured at both Warwick University and University College London, and was co-author of the exhibition “Students in the Third Reich” for the Anne Frank Educational Trust.
Wendy Bellars has taken up the post of principal of St Leonard’s, the independent girls’ school in St Andrews, Fife. Mrs Bellars, a graduate of Glasgow University, comes to St Leonard’s after five years as deputy head of Bishop’s Stortford College, an independent co-educational boarding and day school in Hertfordshire.
Biddy Passmore ANDREW CHICKEN, deputy head of Cheadle Hulme, an independent co-educational school in Cheshire, has been appointed headmaster of Colfe’s, an independent co-educational school in London. He has for the past year been acting head of Cheadle Hulme, where the new headmaster, PAUL DIXON, takes up his post at Easter. (pic available)
