KATHY August is to become Stockport Council’s first education director, taking over early next year when Max Hunt retires. Mrs August is a senior education adviser for the Department for Education and Skills’ Standards and Effectiveness Unit, based in Manchester, and was head of North Manchester high school for girls and Priestnall school in Stockport before moving to Trafford Council to become director of education, arts and leisure.
Jenny Lewis has been selected as Redcar and Cleveland council’s new director of education. She succeeds Patrick Scott, who has moved to York to become the city’s director of education. Mrs Lewis, a former geography teacher, is Stockton Council’s senior assistant director of education.
Laurie Wood is the new chairman of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. Professor Wood, director of academic enterprise at Salford University, will hold the post for three years.
