Who needs orders when you’re a self-starter?

Having read the letter from the School Direct trainee (“My teacher training was a shambles”, 2027 December), I feel compelled to respond. I think it needs to be made clear that your correspondent’s experience is not shared by everyone on the programme. I am part of a well-run course and have not felt pushed in at the deep end. I will admit that the university side is not well organised, despite all the planning we have been assured has gone into it, but it’s certainly not terrible. I feel well supported and well trained. I know that the ambiguity of the programme and its requirements can cause issues, but let’s not tar all training providers and trainees with the same brush.

Rebecca Nobes, School Direct trainee.
