A local authority has backed down after an outcry over religious education guidelines which said terms such as “the Holy Ghost” were too spooky for children.

Norfolk county council is reconsidering its advice to schools, which also warned against the “cannibalistic” overtones of bread and wine becoming the body and blood of Jesus.
