Gerard Kelly is right to remind government ministers that the schools they continually challenge and criticise are their responsibility, not someone else’s (“The year may be new but will it be happy?” 4 January). But why don’t they publicly challenge and criticise the independent sector to which they send their own children? Failure to do so is symptomatic of the wider failure of leadership to which he draws attention.
