Wild Wragg

Professor Wragg's mischievous article about Office for Standards in Education (TES, October 14) was quite amusing, but intentionally misleading. He bemoans the "killing off" of the decently professional inspectorate. He must know that OFSTED courses are planned and rigorously monitored by HMI and the assessments marked by them. The Handbook for the Inspection of Schools was written by HMI. OFSTED is constantly monitoring itself, as it should. Professor Wragg seems to find this a weakness. As for wild statements, is Professor Wragg really suggesting that inspectors use value judgments rather than sound evidence for their findings?
