PART-TIME student teachers who were refused pound;6,000 training salaries by the Government were this week celebrating a ministerial U-turn. Around 167 students from four colleges in Sheffield, Lancaster, Canterbury and Twickenham, were tod they were not eligible because their courses started in May - even though they continue throughout the 2000-01 academic year. They won their case after they were backed by 37 MPS, led by the Liberal Democrat Simon Hughes.
