A few hours spent watching wild owls and hawks in their natural habitat is more exciting and informative than a dutiful trudge past stuffed birds in a museum. The Hawk and Owl Trust is holding an open day for teachers at their education centre in the Chiltern Hills. The mixture of wood and chalk downland is ideal for seeing where these beautiful predators roost and breed. There are many opportunities for inspiring cross-curricular work, with particular relevance to science, geography, history, maths and technology. The Nestboxes Into Schools project is also well worth exploring. The Open Day at the Hawk and Owl Trust is on April 15. Contact Leanne Thomas.
