With reference to your article “Sexism still rife in Wales” (TES, September 27), the point is weakened by out-of-date information. Dyfed had two female headteachers, appointed in January 1996, to Graig comprehensive school and Aberaeron comprehensive school. The appointment of a female headteacher to Bryngwyn comprehensive school in September 1996 added one more to what was Dyfed. Reorganisation into three unitary authorities left Pembrokeshire as the only authority with no women headteachers.

Perhaps acknowledgement of success would be more constructive in promoting equal opportunities, rather than emphasis on the supposed impossibility for a women of becoming a manager in education in Wales.
