Geography lessons in a school’s information technology suite can offer good opportunities to learn about computers, says Ofsted - but not such good opportunities to learn about the world and our place in it.

Now Edumap, a new geographical information system website, allows teachers and pupils to explore their own communities and remote corners of the world without having to run complex, hi-tech software on powerful computers.

Edumap’s creators, Mapalytics, said that because it is online, pupils can log on to their maps and lessons any time, any place. The annual subscriptions are pound;189 for a typical secondary school and pound;69 for a primary.
