Worldwide matchmaker

A website launched by the Government this week is expected to link more than half of schools in England with other countries within a year.

The Global Gateway, developed by the British Council for the Department for Education and Skills, will connect teachers and pupils with counterparts in countries as far afield as Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Latvia and the Philippines.

Education Secretary Charles Clarke described as "a kind of dating agency".
