Teachers who missed the last English Extra still have time to enter pupils for the TES Children’s Literary Project, a creative writing competition for 10 to 14-year-olds organised with McDonald’s Restaurants and the National Association for the Teaching of English.

The competition is explained in a booklet called Write Away which can be obtained free from NATE. It contains specially commissioned autobiographical pieces by well-known writers, with suggestions on how children can improve their own writing. It can be used as a photocopiable resource long after the competition is over. Generous cash prizes will be awarded to individual winners, and their schools will be paid the cost of a writer’s workshop. For details and the booklet write to: Write Away, National Association for the Teaching of English, 50 Broadfield Road, Sheffield S8 0XJ.
