The craft of writing is extremely difficult. A significant number of teachers more often facilitate writing than teach requisite skills and review the process.
This is of grave concern. Texts encountered in reading are the models for writing. Writing skills must be taught, developed, re-viewed and discussed, while promting in the writers a need and a love of the craft.
Despite the usefulness of the literacy strategy and successful teaching in the literacy hours, teachers, too often, have limited knowledge of how to teach and develop pupils’ writing. In-service training should provide programmes for their needs.
