Boy’d (v)

Means: To be embarrassed or insulted into silence

Usage: “Jack got proper boy’d by Mr Draper - he had no comeback”

It may sound petty and perhaps a little unprofessional, but to hear this slice of Yoofspeak could be very sweet indeed. While you may sometimes feel the pupil who doesn’t have an answer for everything is lost to a bygone era, in the right light, and with the right set of circumstances, a humble quiet can be achieved with just the right choice of words. This is when a Yoof is “boy’d”. Immortalised as long ago as 2006 by south London rapper Scarz in his heartfelt paean You Got Boy’d, this term derives from the emotions of being made to feel small (like a little boy, aww bless), be it in an argument with a fellow pupil or a run-in with a member of staff. Sure, said Yoof will almost certainly pluck out a “my uncle ate my homework” for you eventually, but it’s the frustrated silence that accompanies the furious mental grabbing for words that can be considered a temporary victory.
