East Ayrshire Council has launched its first youth culture festival, in response to a survey of local young people who said they wanted more arts activity in the area.

Amplify 06 will run until the end of December and give opportunities to work with professionals on graffiti, comic book, music and photography projects, among other arts. Young people will have the chance to organise exhibitions and concerts too.

An exhibition of work by some of the biggest names in modern art, including Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein, Bridget Riley and Alan Davie, is also part of the festival. Eyepoppers is on at the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock until December 16 and complemented by a schools resource pack.
