Tel: 0131 624 6200; www.nationalgalleries.org; until November 27; admission free Pupils can explore Scotland’s formidable contribution to medical knowledge through the ages. “The Healing Touch” covers 300 years of medical development, from 17th-century quacks, through some pioneering practitioners of the 19th and 20th centuries and coming bang up-to-date with a photographic study of a modern-day GP making his rounds. With more than 100 exhibits to look at, including paintings, photographs and case study material, pupils can find out about such noted figures as Joseph Lister, who introduced antiseptics into the operating theatre, and anatomist Robert Knox, believed to have had a less than healthy involvement with Edinburgh’s infamous grave robbers and murderers William Burke and William Hare.
