An English deputy head has been selected as the inaugural fellow in a new education-exchange fellowship.

David James will be leaving the tree-filled grounds of £34,407-a-year Bryanston School, in Dorset, for the tree-filled grounds of £33,227-a-year Riverdale Country School, in New York City.

He will be taking up a residency in the Bronx school for 10 days, beginning on 4 April. During his stay, he will deliver lessons alongside Riverdale staff members, as well as participating in a panel on education.

He will be the first Zagat Global Fellow, in a new programme established by former Riverdale pupil and restaurant-guide founder Tim Zagat. The aim of the fellowship is to foster a partnership between Riverdale and other schools internationally. This will help provide Riverdale staff with opportunities to learn from other countries’ teachers and teaching methods.

Dr James has taught for nearly 20 years. He has also written and edited for Cambridge University Press. He has also been a teacher in residence at the Department for Education (“based in Westminster,” the Riverdale website states), and (again according to the Riverdale website) a Google-certified teacher.

Dominic Randolph, Riverdale head of school, said: “Dr James is a brilliant educator and visionary. We are thrilled to have his expertise on campus.”
