Zones under fire at TUC

Motions opposing private company involvement in education actions zones (EAZs) and deploring the gap between public and private sctor pay are to be supported by teacher unions next week at the Trades Union Congreess annual conference.

The National Union of Teachers will propose and the National Association of Schoolmasters Women Teachers will second a motion which says EAZs could undermine the principle of a national education system.

The unions are also calling for teachers' salary awards to be paid in full, rather than being staged, and for a new funding mechanism to end the inequality between schools and provide for additional educational needs.
