AS FRENCH - Quels sont les aspects positifs et négatifs d’être une célébrité MODEL ESSAY

(1)
Model essay in response to AQA FREN1 past paper question from the January 2013 paper: "A votre avis, quels sont les aspects positifs et négatifs d’être une célébrité?" As many of my students continue to translate their root ideas that they have in English literally word for word, we looked at how to "keep it simple", i.e. using vocabulary and structures that were within the realms of their knowledge. This essay can serve as a useful model, and can be used to ask pupils to identify grammatical structures they recognise. Another useful exercise is to ask pupils to read through the essay and to tick every relevant point made in relation to the title.

A2 AQA French Cultural Topic-Stromae

Sequence of lessons about Stromae (Belgian singer/songwriter). With my Y13 class I covered both albums (but not all songs) and by the end, students said they felt ready for both the Writing and Speaking components of the exam. (They achieved 100% A*-C with 25% A*-A in August 2015) His biography, his writing style, his approach to media, his use of technology and his potential future in the international music industry are covered. Emphasis is placed on exam requirements, questions found on the AQA website and past papers/oral exams. Many resources were inspired by resources found on the internet however I put a significant amount of time planning full lessons which would enable students to understand/fulfill AQA's expectations while incorporating games and lighter tasks. The last 8 attachments are pictures I took on Y13s last day at school: they created a giant mind map about what they had learnt. I hope you find all these resources helpful. Please don't hesitate to comment/ask.

GCSE French Writing and Speaking to Grade B Handbook

(0)
This is a 12 page booklet / unit of work which will aid learners with a target grade of a B to improve confidence and build vocabulary through drilling and text level work. It is stand alone (though pupils will need access to a dictionary) and therefore ideal for homework and/or cover or independent work. It has been produced after careful study of AQA and Edexcel marking criteria and exemplar work. I have tried to keep the vocabulary as general and cross-topic as possible. I would say that it is ideal for those just starting the course, or those who have to complete Controlled Assessment outside of a topic (i.e. re-sits / those who have missed out or who have underachieved and need to catch up). I have focused only on the present and past in order to maintain accessibility, as through experience these are the two easiest tenses for learners to produce independently.
