There are a wide variety of activities that encourage your class and yourself to get to know your pupils better. These ten back to school activities require very few supplies - most will be ones you already have in your classroom! Do one a day for the first ten days of school or make a whole day of activities. 5 great math-focused back to school activities for getting to know your students, and for them to get to know each other! Math Scavenger Hunt- hunt for students who know the answers to middle school math questions (answer key is included so that you can go over the math facts when the time runs out). Partner Interviews- a great way for students to get to know each other. I have students choose 2 or 3 interesting things they learned about their partners and have them introduce the other person to the class. 60 Second Challenge- fun challenges that students do in pairs! Have one student help by timing and counting, while the other student completes the challenge and vice versa. My Mathography- student choose numbers that best describe them and make illustrations about these numbers to create a numbers autobiography page. Numbers in the Room- students search for others with specific numbers (like the same birth month) in the room to get to know each other.

Back to School - a fun activity for primary classrooms. What is this resource? Blobs and Lines PowerPoint is an icebreaker game that is perfect for the beginning of term and will help pupils get to know each other and feel more comfortable in your classroom without any uncomfortable situations or embarrassing questions. Blobs and Lines focuses on getting to know each other whilst talking on a variety of interesting topics. This game has been created as a bright, colourful animated PowerPoint presentation, complete with 15 questions; all you have to do is set it in slideshow mode and the game will begin after the first slide. No extra equipment is required to play this game.** How does it work? A set of questions asks pupils to either line up in a particular order (by birthday, for example) or gather in groups based on something they have in common (eye colour, for example). This game keeps pupils moving and talking and helps them find things they have in common right away, building a sense of belonging and community in your classroom. There is also a challenge mode on some of the slides which challenges your students to complete the task without talking.

All about me foldable activity for back to school first week

Get to know your class with this no-prep, all about me activity. This foldable printable is ideal for back-to-school or for an ‘about me’ topic and is a fun alternative to a standard worksheet. Print the template on white paper. There are 4 designs to choose from, each with the same prompts (please note that the templates are not editable). Pupils will need coloured pencils, a pen and scissors. Firstly, pupils will colour the top and bottom of the template. They can then fill in the boxes with words and pictures. The information they’ll need to complete is as follows: Name Age Left/right handed A place I’d like to visit is 3 words to describe me Things that make me smile I want to learn more about If I were an animal I’d be Something important to me Encourage lots of discussions! When the foldable is closed, it will spell ME. It can then be gently opened to reveal the detail inside. This ‘T Shirt About Me’ activity, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker. It’s a creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to respond to 30 prompts and questions in a personal and imaginative way, using doodles, words, ‘graffiti style’ lettering and illustrations.
