Includes 2 clips - 1 from Scrubs and 1 from The Office, both have been edited so they are quite short. Pupils discuss what happened and whether they were good resolutions or not. Proverbs sheet is one for pupils to rate which are best, 2 extension tasks. Ensure you go over what happened in each clip - some pupils won't have seen them before and it is a little bit fast for them to keep up. Also, explain what a proverb is - that was my mistake!!

Conflict Resolution (behaviour management)

A wonderful tool to aid dealing with disputes between pupils. I created this resource to solve an ongoing problem between two students who were antagonising each other where there was no clear culprit or victim. The resource consists of a a fill in sheet to give to the students and then a poster to aid talking as you mediate between the students. The students learn: * To express their feelings to each other * Empathise * Problem solve together * Independently resolve conflicts The children also quickly learn, if used each time a problem arises, that they’d rather not miss their break time sat talking issues through and so they begin to avoid creating the problems in the first place. Works great for making the attention craving children who stir up trouble to stop and think!

Teamwork - 10 Scenarios to discuss to promote smooth teamwork and conflict resolution

(0)
Here are 10 different teamwork-based scenarios which pupils (preferably in teams) can discuss, before teamwork gets underway. Each group is given a specific problem and has to discuss together how they would resolve the situation and encourage the team to work together. They then feedback and we discuss as a class. If I have time and students are keen to add some drama, I’ll ask them to act our their scenario and resolution as a role play. As a teacher of life-skills, I saw teamwork as a discreet skill-based subject, as well as linking this in throughout other subject areas. These scenarios are based on the situations that just seemed to happen again and again. I find it extremely useful to use something like this BEFORE teamwork begins - things seem to run a lot more smoothly afterwards. Inevitably, you may still have some problems within groups, but you can refer back to these scenarios and how the class chose to solve problems. I’ve also thrown in a ‘Top Ten Teamwork Tips’ sheet, which students can use alongside this activity and keep in sight to support any partner/group based task. For strategic advice, ideas, lesson plans related to Inclusive Teamwork - ideas that fit nicely with this discussion-based task, go to https://skillswithfrills.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Published-Optimus-magazine-pull-out-Inclusive-Teamwork.pdf for my 4-page pullout in Optimus Educations’ ‘Special Children’ magazine.

Extremism, Radicalisation & Conflict Resolution SOW

This is a short pastoral scheme of work that I wrote after working with students who had been highlighted as being at risk of extremist behaviour or radicalisation at an inner-city all-boys school. This was in my NQT year. We worked with the Foundation for Peace in Warrington on a 3-day residential and from this, I developed a scheme of work to be carried out whole-school in pastoral time. You can run them in any order you feel is best for your students. The materials are simple, but powerful. Lots rely on games and collaborative activities. I have plenty more information and resources if this is an area that you have an interest in. Please just get in touch. I hope you find it useful. Please leave any feedback or suggestions- it is always greatly appreciated.
