This resource is a full devising power point with over 25 lessons in. The resource includes everything your students need to get started with devising including practical techniques and stimuli.
This resource is aimed at year 10 and 11 students, but could be easily adapted for lower years.
There is also a booklet included which has space for students to develop their ideas on the stimuli and record their thinking in a trackable way for their course work.
For the Cambridge IGCSE Drama syllabus (0411) students are required to devise a small group piece of drama (coursework component) that lasts no longer than 15 minutes (regardless of the group size - 2 - 7 persons). It is up to the teacher to provide appropriate sources of stimuli for the groups to respond to (and the stimuli can not be the same as the pre-release paper). I have created a booklet that will help them create their final devised piece, including a summary of the assessment criteria, a choice of three stimuli (a picture, a quote and song lyrics in this case, but you could change them according to your groups needs). Then there are notes on various dramatic devices, structure and form, what needs to be in their devised piece and performance advice.
Hope this is useful! :-)
This booklet has been designed to guide students through their devising and allow them to keep track of all their research and work for their portfolio.

Hello! Here I have a workbook for devising a piece of drama from a stimulus. This would be ideal as both a 'dry run' for the OCR GCSE new specification 'devising drama' unit, or for a standalone unit at key stage 3.
In the booklet, students will:
- Respond to a stimulus image
- Come up with a range of concepts in relation to the image
- Storyboard their main idea
- Create character profiles for major characters
- Write a portion of a script for the performance
- Evaluating rehearsals
-Evaluating performances
-Engaging in a range of design work activities (such as set and costume designs)
Has proved popular with studnets (fun) and staff (low maintenance)
Feedback welcomed and appreciated!
This is the booklet prepared to guide students as they are working on their group devised piece ahead of the Written Examination.
It was created during the pandemic, after the students did not complete the devised piece as per CIE’s requirements in their first year of the course. This same piece will later be developed for the Coursework.
This booklet will become even more useful once the new curriculum of IGCSE Drama (0411) for examination as from 2022 whereby students can do the same devised piece for the Written Examination and Coursework.
The resource is broken down into eleven lessons. It contains the learning objectives as well as instructions for the activities to produce a devised piece over the course of 9 lessons and to reflect on the process and outcome in the form of 5-mark questions from Section A of the IGCSE Drama Written Examination. Lesson 10 is for the performance and lesson 11 is a reflection lesson whereby the class reviews their work. Furthermore, there is detailed information about requirements for answer an upper band long answer question, based on the mark schemes and examiners’ reports.
The resource also contains practice question with scaffolding based off the mark schemes from CIE. This ensures the focus is on devising in order to answer the Written Examination questions.

We have created an adaptable group booklet for mapping the devising process. All tasks and resources are optional or changeable and we always use them as a suggestion for students.
We have used the EDEXCEL GCSE criteria but again this could be changed. We also use a simplified version for our KS3 students when introducing them to making their own work for the first time. We also have a KS5 version which includes information on practitioners.
The booklet covers as much about devising as possible and has been a great tool to inspire them when they have found it challenging or when they need to consider the best creative 'next step'. It has been particularly useful in getting LA students to log and monitor their progress in a relevant way and allowing them to look back and reflect on their work.
In this bundle you get all my resources designed and created specifically for the GCSE Component One: devised Theatre. These are specifically for EDUQAS/WJEC exam boards, but easily adaptable and useful to AQA/EDEXCEL/OCR!

A resource designed to assist GCSE Drama pupils in completing the Devising Log for Component 2 of the AQA course. I also suggest that teachers provide the top band example, description of roles and mark scheme (all supplied by AQA in their spec or exemplar documents) to further assist the completion of the Devising Log.
OCR GCSE Drama - Presenting and Performing Texts
A work booklet with 11 tasks that students choosing the Sound Design option for Devising Drama can work through.
This would work as either independent work or as a homework activity. It helps to keep students on track while allowing them to remain independent through the unit of work.
Tasks range from initial research into the role of the sound designer through to experimenting with different volumes and timings. It gives students suggestions into what evidence they can provide the examiner. It allows students to keep their notes/ideas in one place.
Stages of the booklet include (not all tasks mentioned here): Initial research, your intention, initial ideas, Group Feedback and Final Cue Sheet.
This detailed resource, written by an IGCSE Examiner, offers exemplars and a clear structure for achieving top band written responses for the 25 mark essay question on the students' devised work - for questions in the 0411 IGCSE Drama examination.
A Full Unit on Devising Theatre aimed at KS3/4 students.
Complete with assessment rubric, mark sheets, student booklet, assessment task card to promote independent learning, lesson powerpoints and resources.
In this booklet there are 7 different stimuli including:
Song lyrics
A theme
A piece of artwork
A poem
Prose
Audio (a song)
A sentance starter
Each stimulus asks students to complete a specific task to unlock their ideas and start the creative process. At the end of the booklet, there are two pages for students to identify their ‘favourite’ stimulus, and for them to explore their initial ideas in more detail.
This booklet directly supports the AQA Component 2 Devising Process as:
Students can take photos of their initial brainstorms, and include them in Section 1 of their Devising Portfolio/written work
It gives students a variety of visual, auditory and linguistic stimuli to explore
Students identifying their favourite stimulus can aid in how the teacher groups students for the practical element of Component 2
The last two pages of the booklet encourage students to look at why they chose the stimulus - something which can assist students in accessing the top band of the Section 1 Devising Portfolio marking criteria
This resource is designed as an independent homework booklet, but could easily be used for small group work or whole class activities. As AQA does not prescribe what stimuli are used, the booklet can be used and re-used for years to come.
