A powerpoint I created for my Year 5 class. A mixture of 'thunks&' (philosophical questions), word games, Maths and creative writing.
I took a lot of ideas from other people&';s resources and combined them as I couldn't anything that had enough activities on. I do these activities three times a week. There are enough slides for the whole year and I just click on the next one needed.
These were created for my Year 5 class but could be adapted based on the needs of your children.
For those five or ten minutes in the morning when the pupils are settling down for the register. This booklet has six weeks worth of sudoku (4x4; 6x6 and 9x9) as well as mindfulness colouring, countdown style word conundrums and numbers games.
Child initiated spelling activities that can be laminated and used again or used as worksheets.
All of the statutory year 5/6 words form the new NC are included.
I am also selling spelling lists for weekly spelling tests.
SMART notebook resource - 16 10-15 minute activities focused on the upper KS2 curriculum. Mostly literacy with a little bit of maths. Great for settling in first thing/after lunch and hitting those SpaG objectives on mini-whiteboards before they get it into books!
This Powerpoint consists of 10 morning activites all based around pokemon.
There are 5 maths based activities covering different topics and 5 english activities that need different skills to complete.
The presentation is completely editable, so can be adjusted to fit the skills of your class if necessary.
Some of these would work as good time fillers as well if you had twenty minutes to spare or wanted to look at a skill in depth.
My class really enjoyed them. I have tried to make it so they can all be enjoyed, whether the children play pokemon or not.
Included are five, ready to go, fifteen minute sessions with a focus on the 12 times table. Each session has a focus on counting, fact recall and calculation.
5 minutes of counting
5 minutes of recall
5 minutes of calculation
Included:
33 slides
x5 15 minute sessions
1 hour and 15 minutes in total
x5 counting slides (with whole screen calculations you can print and display)
x5 recall activities and games

This one week bundle of sessions are suitable for KS2 (LKS2 and UKS2), morning activities, lesson starters, homework, early finishers, KS3 intervention and even home learning activities.
These tried and tested, carefully planned 15 minute sessions are sure to improve the rapid recall, confidence and reasoning abilities of your students.
I have used these resources when teaching to a mixed Y3/4 class and also when setting activities for KS2 students at home.
A power point containing 58 slides for 5 days morning maths meeting. Each day we have 5 minutes as part of our maths lesson to review and consolidate learning. This is an example of my maths meeting for a Reception class in April / May and I modify these each week.
Easy to add and change activities.
This is a packet of morning work based around the principles of STEM for Early Childhood students K-2. Rather than having students complete only ELA or Math in the morning work, this packet incorporates reading and writing, and some math in the STEM activities.
The packet starts in the first week of August and goes all through the school year until the last week of May, 38 weeks of STEM activities. Each week offers one STEM activity that is spread out over 4 days, with the 5th day being a reflection of the week's work. All activities are designed to have 15 minutes spent on them, as students are settling into the morning routine of school.
Included in this packet is:
Monthly table of contents
Weekly STEM Packet Cover
STEM activity titles for each month
Needed STEM materials for each month
Directions for STEM activities for each month
Set up and prep directions for teacher for each month

This is the first in a series of Grammar and Punctuation 10-minute Tests. These have been designed to cover as many areas of the SPaG curriculum as possible. Aimed at Year 5 and Year 6 pupils for instant revision purposes. These could form the basis of Early Morning Activities, Homework or even the start of a one-off SPaG lesson. There are 10 tests in the set as well as a self-assessment grid to highlight and target the areas which need more work. The children can total up their efforts at the end of the 10 test unit and see how well they are getting on with the score sheet. Set 2 will be available shortly.
I do not work in year 5 anymore, but I have banked together all my planning. Obviously it will need to be adapted to suit your class, but hopefully it should save you lots of time :)
A week's worth of maths problems linked to the new curriculum arithmetic skills. 5 Word documents to be used on a whiteboard as an early morning activity or 15 minute activity.
This is a background pack for Melly Still's 2013 production of From Morning to Midnight by George Kaiser in a new version by Dennis Kelly. Included in this pack is a rehearsal diary and an interview with Melly Still.
2020 UPDATE
2015 was the year that in the Back to the Future films they visited the ‘future’. October was the month of ‘Back to the Future Day.’
I have designed a unique set of resources designed to engage children in Literacy. Also excellent for a futuristic topic. Please note this is a set of unique resources, not a unit or lesson plan. It is designed for teachers to ‘dip into’ as they wish or even as part of a whole school topic. There is tonnes of material and this took many hours to assemble.
The resources could be used as part of a thematic unit or within other units of the curriculum. Excellent for Newspapers and Non-Fiction writing opportunities in particular.
Included in this resource pack…
Multiple sets of Newspaper articles (edited by myself and made highly visual in worksheet form) with comprehension and activity worksheets I made for them.
-Additional extension activities fitting the articles
-Punctuation activity
-Original trailer and Poster from the movie with activities I designed around them
-The stuff the film got wrong!
-Punctuation activity
-Ideas for a Back to the Future week / day.
-Display materials
-Movie clips ‘making of’
-Hover Chase Video
…and much more!
Due to the popularity of this resources I have added some futuristic robot activities which tie in well with the topic!
An up to the minute and current set of resources that children will love, especially boys and a brilliant way to encourage creative writing / comprehension skills as well as looking at the features of Newspapers.
Designed for KS2 but could be easily differentiated for lower KS3.

This resource contains 4 sets of challenge cards. Each set has 10 challenge cards making 40 individual challenge cards altogether!
The challenge cards are English based. There are 2 to an A4 page. Each challenge card is numbered. Just print, cut to size and laminate and you will have a useful resource to use in a wide variety of ways.
The challenge cards could be used as a write on wipe off activity or the children could copy them into their books. These challenge cards could be used as an early morning activity, for those who finish their work before others, or they could be used for 5 minute time fillers at any time of the day.
These cards are suitable for children in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5. Some children in Year 1 and Year 6 may benefit from these cards, depending on their
ability and needs.

Emergency Sub Plans! (Literacy Grades 3-5)
Have you ever been in a pickle and had to call in sick at the last minute? I have known teachers that will have to go to the school sick just to write sub plans and go back home! Do not do this to yourself! These are DONE! 10 days of Literacy Sub Plans, ready to print, stack, and leave!
Here is how they work!
Each day of sub plans includes the following items…and there are 10 days of these sub plans!
—Morning Work
—A Fiction or Non-Fiction Passages (Questions and Answer Keys are included with the passages!)
—A Reading Responses
—Word Work Pages
—Writing Prompts
—Fast Finisher Task Cards
And…MOST IMPORTANTLY…
A lesson plan- this lesson plan is generic enough to fit any day but specific enough to help the sub know exactly what to do with these activities; just place it on top of the student activities and you are ready. The only thing missing is the “times” because I know everyone’s schedule is different. Just have a schedule for him or her nearby, and then these lesson plan will tell the sub exactly what he or she needs to do, approximate time to spend on the activity, and what activity to move onto next.
DISCLAIMER: Since these are just LITERACY plans, I have made the lesson plans for departmentalized teachers. Meaning, these lessons will be done with a morning group and an afternoon group. IF YOU ARE NOT DEPARTMENTALIZED…these are still for you! You would have to add math activities of your own, but half of your day would be COMPLETE!
EVERYTHING is done for you! I encourage you to buy these, run the copies, and place them in a “sub tub” or “sub drawer.” Then your fellow teachers can go right to it when you are sick, pull them out, and you are done! What a lifesaver!
I used these maths questions as morning work for a while with Year 1’s. It introduced them to concept of maths problems and number sentences in preperation for Year 1. I used these as quick 5 minute activity and we marked them together- taking 10 minutes in total. They were super beneficial for my class.

Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a maths-related word is revealed after completing calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing errors. Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal the hidden maths word. (In the rounding puzzle students find the numbers that don’t round to specified target numbers and in some of the fractions puzzles, students must find non-equivalent fractions etc). In many puzzles there is an extension question / challenge linked to the hidden word, which on some may require a little research if time.
Students often forget or avoid checking their work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.
Thank you for your interest in my resources. I do hope your students enjoy using these puzzles. Please do consider giving a review on TES if you get a spare moment. I would be so grateful.
