Differentiated KS2 Harry Potter Capacity Lesson with Dumbledore Video

The original resource and idea came from the following tes member so please check that our first! This is meant to be an addition to that lesson: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/capacity-magic-potions-empty-measuring-jug-6189506 I have used the same potions and ingredient names as the original resource (I changed some of the measurements slightly to suit my Year 3 class) and added on some other elements. The potion labels from the original resource wouldn't print on my computer properly so I've made a version of the labels that is as close as I could get them to the original. What I have made myself are letters from Hogwarts which can be aged with teabags and tied with string **Tailor them to your school/class. 5 differentiated maths riddles which can also be teabag dyed and tied with string which I had the secretary drop-off during the lesson saying an owl had just dropped them outside the office. **Again edit them to suit your class I also made a video using the photospeak app (a great idea from a colleague of mine) so that it seems like Dumbledore is talking to the class (I've tried to cut-out where he says "Miss Wilson" so that it can be used more generally and have uploaded the more general video to Youtube). It does skip where I've cut the video so you may want to make your own but if short for time this version should do. If your class is not Year 3 simply forward past the "greeting Year 3" bit to where it says "I have heard that you are a very bright bunch of witches and wizards and I need your help." Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFyn8aIG8nQ&feature=youtu.be You can also download the video from this post. I also made top secret folders to put the potions inside (top secret clipart included) and used fishing wire to hang Hogwarts letters from the ceiling (Hogwarts letters clipart included). And printed a Platform 9 3/4 sign on A3 paper and laminated for our door (included). Liquid ink and feathers found at HobbyCraft. Please check out my Harry Potter Grammar Mystery here as the two lessons would tie-in together nicely: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/ks2-differentiated-harry-potter-grammar-mystery-11732472

Five revision sessions using chapters 1-4 of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Look at how JK Rowling draws in readers with her opening chapters. Revise word classes, syntax, sentence punctuation. Study features of letter writing; create own ‘Howlers’! Includes: teaching plan for 5 sessions teaching resources and answers SPAG revision presentation 5-minute SPAG revision presentation Session 1 - Looking at the opening chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, children discuss how many exciting ideas and invented words are introduced in this new world. They revise word classes, and discuss, classify and define words. Session 2 - Children consider story openings and techniques for drawing in the reader. They evaluate a text, form opinions and justify these with evidence from the text, drawing on their own notes. Session 3 - Children revise sentence punctuation and identify aspects of sentence structure, including verb, subject, object. They identify complete sentences and complete relevant grammatical exercises. Session 4 - Discuss different ways writers can introduce a character (description, action, dialogue) and consider the introduction of Hagrid. Children draw inferences from the text and retrieve information to provide evidence for opinions. Session 5 - Review all the letters so far in Harry Potter, and discuss features and types. Children plan and write a letter in role, applying letter conventions in their own work. They then perform their own howlers. SPAG Revision Word classes, sentence types and their punctuation and syntax of a sentence (subject, verb, object, parts of a clause) are all covered in this introductory presentation. It also encompasses features of letters. This unit is part of a larger block of Harry Potter themed revision plans that cover all of the required revision for the Year 6 English SATs, including the SPAG.

Grange Maths Camp Reports and Resources

Grange Academy had our first Maths Camp in March 2015. After sharing lots of the action on Twitter (#GrangeMathsCamp) I was asked a few times for more information about what the programme looked like, where we went, the costs involved and the unique extras we provided. It was a brilliant weekend of fun and revision with over 60 Higher and Advanced Higher pupils and it’s continued to grow so that we now take over 100 on our Maths Camp. Hope this inspires you to do something similar… Our 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023 reports are also attached! Also, I write a (free) weekly Maths Newsletter with other ideas to share. If you’d like to get this simply email aap03102@gmail.com

These are resources I use for OCR Buddhism. I update these resources all the time or add new things to them so please feel free to comment and suggest any improvements - there are lots of spelling mistakes and philosophical errors that I try to weed out as much as possible but I tend to update the resources whenever I spot them. If you make any additions or improvements to the files please let me know so that I can use them also - thanks I definitely need to make updates to my booklets on zen, ethics, and meditation so any help there would be appreciated.
