Attached is a simple activity to do with your class in the New Year.
The activity is called ‘2 Resolutions… and 1 Lie’
Instructions: On the lines provided, ask your student’s to write down three New Year’s resolutions. Two of the resolutions must be genuine but one must be a lie. Can your teacher (or friends) guess which ones are genuine and which one is not?
I’ve attached 2 different templates (in case you don’t want to use the word “LIE”).
Both templates are fully editable and can be enjoyed by all.

This is a Talk for Writing (T4W) narrative unit based on the story - Love Monster. I chose this text to link with our topic - Monsters. The text has been adapted/re-written by myself to incorporated some of Pie Corbett’s key connectives, phase 4/5 phonic graphemes and to follow the national curriculum 5 parts of a story - opening, build up, problem, resolution/dilemma and ending. I have taught and adapted this unit over 5 years and always love teaching it. This pack includes the adapted text, planning for all the 3 phases and all the powerpoints I made. I have also included any photographs I have of the finished storymap and of the storymap templates I gave to the children. The planning is very indepth as I had a student this year who was new to T4W and I have also been observed by our local T4W training school as part of my CPD and as part of my schools pathway to become a T4W training school. I have planning for other T4W units both narrative and non-narrative which I will upload if people are interested.

This unit of work was planned by the student teacher who worked in my class last year. The end product was very good - all the children wrote their own adventure stories. I hope it helps when people plan their own unit based on this theme. Topics alos included: narrative text; mystery and adventure story.

The Introduction: point of view, characters, time and setting, brief prelude to what will take place

THE INTRODUCTION
Prompt for students to include a hook, their opinion, and a thesis statement.
THE BODY
Guideline for students to include a topic sentence for each of the three reasons, followed by supporting details, and a concluding sentence. There are two templates for the body paragraphs.
THE CONCLUSION
Checklist for students to include a summary statement to re-state their opinion, brief summary of the reasons provided, and a call to action.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE: FLIPBOOK

SUGGESTED USE:
→ Project the PDF file on the interactive whiteboard to teach the structure via the posters/anchor charts. Also show students the flipbook templates and completed sample. Discuss the requirements for each template.
→ Have students fill in the templates. This could also serve as their draft where they could use the self-editing and peer-editing checklists to edit. Finally have students publish on given writing sheets or type out content from draft observing corrections.

PREPARATION
Have students compile all sections of the flipbook prior to research and writing.
This flipbook is sure to make the entire experience of writing, not just enjoyable, but more meaningful.
I have made some notes to go with the new year 12 AQA biology course at A level. There are a set of teacher notes that are completely filled in and an set of pupil notes with missing bits. I have made it as some pupils in my school want hand outs and some like to get notes from the board. I will try both approaches with the pupils, but the overall idea is that they can have both really as the notes will be on the computer system. I have split the course into 2 halves so that each teacher will deliver a portion as that's how our time tables are set up. The immunity section needs some work still, I have unanswered questions there that I am trying to research. There are a set of summary notes that go with this also.
This unit introduces pupils to the vocabulary associated with New Year Resolutions and the use of ‘WERDEN’ to form the future tense.
This is one of four units consisting of a variety of interactive reading, listening and writing activities. Pupils are encouraged to seek and identify patterns in language, to use cognates to understand text, to discuss their language learning and to acquire memorising techniques.
3-5 days' worth of lessons on goal-setting, goal and achievement vocabulary, and integrated reading (and possibly listening/watching), discussion, and writing about success, failure, and what's most important in life.
16 pages of differentiated goal-setting and vocabulary activities and games, comprehension questions, and writing and discussion prompts (besides the cover and 4 answer keys.)
The suggested readings (linked) are commencement addresses discussing the meaning of success and the value of initial failure. The key address is in clear. simple language. This pdf also includes scaffolding, with explanation of potentially difficult expressions and idioms, for the optional secondary addresses (only suggested for for higher level students.)
