Of Mice and Men Section 1 Lessons

This contains one powerpoint per chapter/section, plus a background context powerpoint to give students an insight into the era and issues. I have combined my own ideas with some others which are available on this site. Each lesson contains the relevant chapter of the book as an audiobook from a free download. I am using it with an intervention group to try and make the novella more accessible. They are loving it!

A complete Novel Study for the book ‘Of Mice and Men’ written by John Steinbeck. The Novel Study is compiled by Joel Reed, and contains a total of 50 pages of content. This was designed as a workbook in preparation for a controlled assessment on the theme of power in 'Of Mice and Men&'. It covers power in three forms - physical power, the power of seduction and the power of hierarchy. The workbook contains activities and questions for the pupils to complete. The key words/literary techniques and the quotation bank are designed to help the pupils build their knowledge on the subject before they write the assessment.

SOW completed with middle ability YR10 class. Students had read the book in class before beginning the unit. First few lessons provide a recap of context, themes and plot before focusing on Curley's Wife.

Abpit 1 hour of activities in total or could be used as a workbook for students to work on for homework or as a short project.

Three levels of spelling sheets for year 6, practice sheets (with handwriting guide for least able) with a word search and cross word for each group to photocopy a double-sided sheet. (Group 2 has different activities this week as possessive apostrophes just don’t work in word searches!) Little and often, every day. I used these as a task to do every morning. Fun little quiz I have used with low ability gcse class for last lesson of the day 'lulls&'. Element of competition and a prize incentive always works. Quiz tackles meanings of words , connotations , ding bats , anagrams. Could be used as a nice starter or spread out for a standalone lesson.
