The ‘Staff Voice Questionnaire - Literacy Audit’ is a questionnaire tool designed to enhance staff voice activities across the whole school to support the monitoring and development of teaching and learning, specifically the quality of literacy across the curriculum. The questionnaire aims to cover all key aspects relating to literacy, allowing staff to express views and opinions regarding consistency across different subject areas and departments to inform school improvement.

This resource contains a 34 slide powerpoint designed to be used for staff training in literacy across the curriculum. It divides literacy into 5 key areas:
Reading and comprehension strategies
Writing fluency strategies
Literacy through DIT (directed improvement time)
Spelling and vocab skill building
Inference and analysis skill building
Each area comprises suggested strategies and tasks suitable for any subject area and teacher across the KS3 and GCSE curriculum, in order to build literacy skills without sacrificing content. It can be used as a ‘pick n mix’ bundle, allowing staff to focus on areas that are not as strong in their current curriculum, or as a package deal looking at all areas.
Examples, worksheets and extra resources are included to aid in the delivery of staff training on this topic. Some have been created from scratch, others have been sourced online and included/ adapted as examples.
Strategies are based heavily in research to improve literacy within school settings, developed by an experienced, current practicing English teacher / former HOD and current literacy lead.
Literacy lesson plans based on the requirements of the Australian Curriculum (Primary) that includes ICT teaching strategies, curriculum mapping, practical and immediately actionable advice on how to improve your own ICT capability for the lesson, and resources to help you track the progress of student capabilities in ICT .
This training PowerPoint covers the research, and highlights the issues, with boys studying English. It looks at some of the issues and there are practical suggestions as to how to combat some of the barriers that boys may have when succeeding in English.

The first resource is a lengthy series of activities, each linked to VIPERS which can be used in reading sessions.
The second is a selection of reading aloud strategies which can be used to model and promote excellent reading aloud in any year group.
This resource consists of a PowerPoint presentation with four supporting word documents for an hour-long training session on methods for teaching reading.
Includes:
- looking at a range of methods of teaching reading from the past and present
- an activity in which staff attempt to decode five mystery texts
- discussion of diagrams which show the skills used for reading
- a task to match activities to reading skills
and
- an opportunity for teachers to reflect on the provision for reading in their own classrooms.
