Download our popular two-week literacy unit of poetry planning for Years 1 and 2. This unit is perfect to go with a living things topic and is built around objectives from the National Curriculum. In this unit, children will read and listen to nature poems by Christina Rossetti and consider how the sounds and language patterns come alive when the poems are read aloud. Pupils will have the opportunity to create their own versions of the nature poems and to perform them. Explore the stages of a daffodil’s life cycle with this fun folding science craft. Use this activity to support learning about plants, life cycles, spring/seasonal changes, growth or St David’s Day. Print the black and white templates onto paper or card for pupils to colour and cut out. There are 4 similar templates to choose from so you can pick one that best matches your pupils’ needs. Template 1: Colour the template and life cycle stages, sequence the stages, glue, cut, and fold. Template 2: As above but with a simple, straight cutting edge. Template 3: Draw the life cycle stages onto the template, cut and fold (no glue required). Template 4: As above but with a simple, straight cutting edge. Simple instructions with pictures are provided to help with folding. Once complete, the 2 halves of the daffodil are brought together, then gently pulled apart to reveal the life cycle stages inside. This resource is a non-fiction comprehension booklet for year 2. It is all about habitats and covers what a habitat is, followed by a short look at deserts, oceans, cities, rainforests, woodlands and seashores. It is split into 3 differentiated levels. There is a different booklet for each level. Each booklet contains a title page with helpful words, followed by four pages of pictures with short written extracts to read and 2-3 questions per page. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘how,’ ‘which’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. Answers are also included.
