Equivalent Fractions Lesson & Activity Pack

(1)
This pack is designed to help students develop an understanding of equivalent fractions and to give them multiple opportunities to practise. It contains: 1. Introducing Greedy Monkey A set of PPT slides and follow up worksheets that tell the story of a greedy monkey who wants to eat 5/6 of three different cakes. The first cake has been cut into six pieces, so it's easy. But what if the cake has already been cut into 12 pieces, or more? How many should monkey eat so that she ends up eating 5/6 of the cake? The idea is to develop the understanding that she would need to eat twice as many pieces of cake, because each piece is half as big, and then to generalise this to other denominators. 2. Follow on Activities: Matching Activity, Maze & Dominoes Three activities that could be used to give practise in a lesson, or for homework. Students must match equivalent fractions into groups of 3, find their way through a maze by shading equivalent fractions and pair up a set of dominoes. 3. Exit Slips Quick exit slips that could be given out at the end of lesson to check on understanding.

Outstanding GCSE Best Value Maths Mastery Interview Observation Lesson Complete Planning & Resources

(0)
The brief was "Teach 'Best Value for Money' at GCSE Foundation level to a Year 10 class of 25 students with 2 EAL students. The main part of the lesson is the students completing 14 questions on Best Value. The questions have been very carefully selected to increase in difficulty. Everything else works around that. Some of the questions came from the Web, some from examination practice paper software and some I made up. The Misleading Prices starter presents supermarket price labels with unusual offers on which prompts an interest at the start and provides some good starting discussion. The Baked Beans plenary was made more visual by me having the actual tins in those sizes for the student to look at and pass around. You need to read the lesson plan first and you'll see how it all fits together. It was used for a one hour lesson where I tried to exemplify everything I could about my style of teaching and my knowledge of how to show progress in a lesson. The lesson plan had been scrutinized by a Maths HOD, a SENCO and a Headteacher who had given input for me to improve it before hand. It was designed to have minimal teacher talk and lots of the students working. The lesson plan details all the prior knowledge needed and then everything I could think of to use in the next few lessons so it is a complete module of work for Best Value. In hindsight after the event: I should have had more picture questions prepared for the EAL students. There should had been more teaching of the different methods at the start This resource represents a huge investment of my time as I had a week to prepare and improve on it. You are getting an outstanding lesson resource which although you will need to adapt to your own lesson style I think you will have to do little to modify the resources as all the ideas are there. It is pretty comprehensive.

GCSE Fractions, Decimals, Percentages - Notes and Worked Examples

This is a powerpoint covering all aspects of fractions, decimals and percentages including equivalence and calculations. It contains brief notes by way of an explanation, model answers to questions and a question or two for the students to do; all of the questions come with answers that you can display when ready. The slide show comes with a progress grid (regularly referred to in the presentation) so that students can mark their progress from start to finish and pinpoint any areas that may need extra work with a “red/amber/green” system that they fill in; each one is given an approximate grade in both new (2017 onwards) and old system in England. It’s what I use in my lessons before setting tasks from worksheets or text books to practise.

Basic skills numeracy workbook with video links

(0)
This booklet has been created for use with KS3 pupils in my school to ensure that pupils are able to do the basic numeracy skills and to provide consistency of my schools preferred methods. This booklet has QR codes on each page which can be scanned by pupils that link to appropriate YouTube videos if they get stuck. I am implementing this booklet for use in form time but could be used as a starting point for the year or starters for each lesson. I am creating a KS4 version, however, this could be used at any key stage.
