A set of three SATS style question Games based on Arithmetic, Roman numerals and problem solving questions found in the SATs papers - INCLUDES ANSWERS. Can be done as a independent revision activity or used in boosters. Created by a year six teacher (97% maths at and above expected pass rate last year), maths coordinator and deputy head. Used on the afternoon before the 2018 maths SATS tests and updated in 2019. The games allow the teacher to check the mathematics concept with a SATS style questions. This is designed specifically for revision purposes as I have found my class sometimes fail to retain certain mathematical methods or struggle to use what they know to figure out what they don’t. Requires dice and counters. Please click on my name above for loads of maths, reading and writing resources that are aimed at getting the best out of your year 6 class.

Times Tables Precision Teaching Booklet

Need a quick and easy intervention to support student to learn tables - This booklet is designed to support a student to develop recall of tables through a focused daily minute of recall. The booklet has a pre and post assessment as well as record space to track daily progress. Some students need to use a structured approach to get number facts into their long-term memory – they do not seem to keep them there just by regular use in maths lessons. This booklet can be used to support this process. On each page is a grid with items to prompt the student to say a tables fact. Each day they should count how many oral responses they can give in a minute – and record that on the sheet. The aim is to be able to recall a few more each day. The precision teaching approach works best if the student can do an activity using the content of the page they are currently working on for a few minutes ( 5 to 10) before they do the one-minute timed activity. There are lots of interactive maths sites online e.g. Topmarks: teaching resources, interactive resources, worksheets, homework, exam and revision help – and this is a great way to give student this opportunity in a way that they can do independently. At the end of the booklet is a tables square for reference and some ideas for extension activities.

This bundle includes 50 full tests (with 36 questions) to practice with as well as 100 daily arithmetic practices (with ten questions each) for your class. Great for early morning or starters. The daily practices provide the ability to track the children’s confidence in different areas. The full tests look just like the real things and the composition of questions are based on the real thing too. With both the full tests and the daliy practices, there are three different sizes for each test: All the questions on a page (or two on a page for the daily practices). A condensed version when compared to the real tests to save paper but still have that 'real test feel’ A full-sized arithmetic test For the daily practices, the objectives and question types from genuine arithmetic tests have been spread out across sets of ten tests. Ensuring both variety and repetition. With the daily practices, each question fits in an area: Written Multiplication Written Division Written Addition Written Subtraction Mental Multiplication Mental Division Mental Addition Mental Subtraction Multiply/Divide by 10/100/1000 Add Fractions Subtract Fractions Multiply Fractions Divide Fractions Fractions of a Number Order of Operations Percentages For the majority of areas, three levels of questions have been provided. Each test comes with a few questions from each challenge level so some questions are accessible to everyone whilst others will provide a challenge to your most able. For example, with ‘Written Multiplication’, Level 1 includes two digits x one digit or three digits x one digit, Level 2 includes three digits x two digits and four digits x four digits and Level 3 includes multiplying whole numbers by decimals. Not only that but assessment tracking has also been provided for the daily practices. Each day, the children or you can record on the QLA tracking sheet. This allows you to quickly identify gaps and support children. The sheet allows for identification of what the level of the question was that they struggled with. Great for KS2 SATs preparation and revision. Instructions are provided on how to do this.

40 sets of arithmetic starters/morning work for year 5 and 6 with answers

(0)
A power point that contains 40 sets of maths arithmetic challenges. I will be using these as morning work with my year 6 class to provide extra opportunity to practise using the four operations. The questions alternate between straight forward calculations and find the missing digits questions. They are differentiated A-C. A questions do not involve exchanging or carrying and so are ideal for LA or MA/HA to complete mentally. B involves exchanging and carrying and C involved decimals up to three decimal places. Each day has two slides- the questions and then the answers and so are easy for children to self-assess. The title slide says morning work, autumn 1 as this is when I will be using them but this could easily be changed if needed. I aim to create further sets for the rest of the year, as I do I will upload them to TES.

KS2 Maths Challenge: Plan a Christmas Party

(0)
I made this fun booklet for my KS2 pupils to practise maths in a ‘real life’ situation based on planning a Christmas party for 200 KS1 pupils. After completing this task, the children actually did plan a party for KS1! They were amazed at the actual cost of the items and gained a real insight into planning for an event. There are 7 tasks in total with a task summary table for pupils to record their summaries at the end of each task. The pupils have a budget of £400 and must make decisions based upon their budget and costs of items such as food and entertainment. Task 1 Party timetable – working out a timetable around set times. Task 2 Total cost of food for 200 children. Percentage and fraction of children’s votes for a particular buffet type. Cost per head and total costs. Task 3 Total number of tracks for the whole party. Numbers of tracks for the dancing sessions using multiplication and addition skills. Task 4 The cost and name of the cheapest show. Calculating the actual costs of two shows plus extras and deciding on the cheapest option. Task 5 Total drinks cost for 200 children. Options for drinks and total costs. Task 6 The cheapest option for party hats Task 7 Total cost of all prizes.

Beat the Clock game. Excellent starter, especially if you want them to settle down really quick, I normally put 10 minutes on the stop watch. They then have to complete the questions as quickly as possible they then mark down the time they finish and as a class we mark them. Pupils can try and improve their score and time each time. You can easily change it so it can include decimals to make it more challenging.

Colouring Bars for Equivalent Fractions

(3)
A nice simple worksheet for students to use for shading in bars to see fractions which are equivalent. Perfect for primary and secondary mathematics lessons. This activity is especially nice for the more visual learners, and those who find it more difficult to conceptualize mathematics. This resource includes a rainbow-colored “fraction wall” for students to refer to. This wall is helpfully the same width as the bars for the examples and the questions. All parts of the resource are easily editable. It had a dyslexic-friendly font and can be printed on any color paper without loss of aesthetic. This is also a nice time to introduce to the students the idea of the “part to whole” relationship that fractions indicate. As always, if you do choose to download this resource, thank you, and please leave feedback for any improvements I could make to it.
