Introducing Live Marking and Feedback CPD presentation

(0)
‘Live marking and feedback’ is the idea of marking or giving feedback on students’ work ‘in the moment’ - which cognitive science research tells us is incredibly effective in moving learning forward and addressing misconceptions before they become embedded. This presentation takes staff through the rationale behind it, the practicalities in its implementation, and the different ways it can be done. We have introduced it and in addition to helping our students make greater learning gains, it has reduced staff workload dramatically. This policy is for forward thinking schools who are looking to introduce evidence-informed practices into their school environment, benefiting students and staff alike. This was something that was really well received when it was presented and live marking and feedback continues to go form strength to strength as more practitioners begin to see its value when done well. Thanks for taking a look :)

How We Keep You Safe in School (Pre-Ofsted Assembly for KS1 and 2)

A Primary school assembly, written and delivered to our school as we waited for the Ofsted call! This really helped children to understand how we keep them safe, including lots of ways that they are less likely to know about. This really improved the pupil response in both our in-school pupil survey and for Ofsted when they eventually called in November 2023. We were graded good in all areas. Fully editable.

Subject Leader Self Evaluation Form (SEF)

(0)
As a subject leader, a subject self-evaluation is a process that allows you to assess the effectiveness of your subject area across a period of time (usually an academic year). It typically includes analysing any pupil performance data available, gathering feedback from students and staff, evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and the resources available, and reviewing the curriculum. A key part of the self-evaluation is understanding it’s not just recalling what happened but highlighting the impact that subject leadership has had. We’ve included two fully editable word document templates for you to self evaluate your subject area: Self-Evaluation Form – Concise: a shorter form for making a broader evaluation. This is less time consuming and more useful when you already have a good understanding of your subject area in your setting. It can also be used when your subject area doesn’t require rapid improvement and just needs less invasive monitoring to keep it on track. Self-Evaluation Form – In-Depth: a longer form that covers the Ofsted grade descriptors and allows you to make an in-depth judgement about the current status of your subject area in your school. This is useful if you want to get to know your subject well, if you know you need to make rapid changes or if you believe your school will be inspected and you want to use this to bolster your confidence and understanding. Our full subject leader pack includes this and so much more. Visit honeyguide-sls.co.uk for further information. Compassion Assembly!

(1)
This fun and original assembly aims to assist children in understanding the value of being compassionate, through: Understanding what compassion is, and recognising why it is important; Looking at examples of behaviour that is compassionate and not compassionate (including through role play activities and videos), and noting its effect on people in need; Learning strategies to demonstrate compassion in their own lives. This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in (for example how they might act towards those in need both within and out of school) in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. The session also includes a fun role-play task, a beautiful, thought-provoking video about the importance of compassion, and various discussion activities regarding how to show compassion in different areas of their own lives. No further resources are required, everything that you need to present the assembly is included. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Annual Safeguarding Report to Governors Template

An annual safeguarding report to governors has a dual function: It generates a report for the governing body, allowing them to monitor the school’s safeguarding practices and ensure adherence to the statutory guidance outlined in the KCSIE. It enables the governing body to verify that the school is fulfilling its safeguarding obligations and provides supporting evidence for Ofsted inspectors during assessments of safeguarding practice. Utilise our Annual Safeguarding Report to Governors to ensure you share a summary of appropriate safeguarding information each year to keep governors up to date. This fully editable word document template enables you to share information such as DSL, safer recruitment, staff training including prevent duty, information on new starters, volunteers and visitors, single central record (SCR), policies and procedures, curriculum and online safety, referrals and multi-agency work and more in an easy to read and digest format. Observation & Learning Walk Performance Grid

(1)
For use alongside lesson observations and learning walks, this succinct performance grid enables observers to gauge and categorise teaching and learning sessions using OFSTED guidance for effective teaching. The first page of the document provides descriptors of 'outstanding', 'good', 'requires improvement' and 'inadequate' teaching within appropriately considered focus areas, for example: Questioning, Planning, Use of Additional Adults, etc. Schools that already employ this tool often opt to highlight the descriptors on this page as they observe, thus creating a bigger picture of the strengths and areas for improvement in the teaching and learning observed. Schools who still grade individual lessons have noted that this is a helpful aid in arriving at an overall judgement. The second page allows observers to further pinpoint and describe the 'www' (what went well) and 'ebi' (even better if) aspects of the lesson, in order to make feedback to teachers more clear.
