Survey; Question; Read; Recite; review (SQ3R) is a great strategy for students when reading non fiction texts. This chart outlines the steps that need to be followed.
I have attached all five sheets together and display it in a prominent position in my classroom. The first two pages are printed on green card. The third, fourth and fifth pages are printed on yellow, orange and red card respectively. I have labels with the students names attached to page two with velcro dots. All students start on green each day. Any students whose behaviour is inappropriate move down the chart where the consequences are listed.
