The Owl and the Pussy-Cat vocabulary cards and two presentations to support the teaching of all three verses of the poem The Owl and the Pussy-Cat by Edward Lear to EYFS or Key Stage 1 pupils. All selected 29 words/phrases from the poem contain matching images. Vocabulary cards The vocabulary cards can be used as a glossary, or cut out and used as a matching activity or as flashcards. These are particularly useful for pupils with English as an additional language (EAL) and pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to pre-teach the vocabulary before reading the poem, and again mid-unit. The cards can also be used as a glossary for all pupils to refer to while studying the poem to aid understanding. The cards can be printed onto A3 and displayed in the classroom as a visual reminder. Vocabulary Presentation The 59 slide presentation can be used to pre-teach the vocabulary, to test pupils or to prompt the class as they recite the lines to help pupils to memorize the poem.
