GCSE Differentiation - Notes and Worked Examples

This is a powerpoint covering basic calculus for GCSE. It contains brief notes by way of an explanation, model answers to questions and a question or two for the students to do; all of the questions come with answers that you can display when ready. The slide show comes with a progress grid (regularly referred to in the presentation) so that students can mark their progress from start to finish and pinpoint any areas that may need extra work with a “red/amber/green” system that they fill in; each one is given an approximate grade in both new (2017 onwards) and old system in England. It’s what I use in my lessons before setting tasks from worksheets or text books to practise.

Whilst off sick I needed my year 11's to do some work that would still be relevant for their summer exams. Having been taught Pythagoras a long time ago I reformatted one of my other Pythagoras sheets so it could be done without any teaching. Certainly not to be given as a first lesson on Pythagoras but fine for revision. If you want to find my other Pythagoras resources search &'Pythagoras galore&';

Working With Algebra

Having been asked to help some students (Years 9 and 10) who lacked confidence in class I decided to write these four sheets that we will go through together; the questions are designed to get increasingly difficult and to encourage questions and discussion. There are also various answers for some of the questions, another chance for a mathematical discussion. Topics covered include simplifying expressions, indices, expanding brackets (and therefore factorising) and basic algebraic fractions. The questions are varied in the hope of not allowing students to get into a rut and answer without thinking carefully. I have also introduced the word and symbol “identity”. I hope it is useful.

Set of resources to cover the whole topic of inequalities on graphs

(0)
This set of resources contains everything you need to teach the topic of inequalities on graphs. The students need to be confident with straight line graphs for this topic so the first worksheet is a refresher of those. Next is a powerpoint with worked examples of finding the single inequality represented by a shaded region. The worksheet that follows practises finding the single inequality that describes the given shaded region (4 pages). The next worksheet practises finding the 3 inequalities that describe the given shaded region (4 pages). The worksheet "Inequalities on graphs" gives students lots of practice drawing the shaded region (both single and multiple inequalities) and finding inequalities for shaded regions (10 pages). The final resource is intended as a homework or summative assessment (4 pages). All answers are included for printing/projecting for your class to check their answers.
